If there was a collection of parenting studies required, then all of us would have at least one four year college degree. It would be easy to get buried in the amount of material there is on this subject. Be assured that this is a good thing because you are taking an interest in being a good parent. People may not always read about parenting until they are already too busy with their children. Yes, people are different, and we do know some young parents who became well-read on the subject prior to having their first child. None of us can forget about our senior year in high school because we could finally see a taste of what was going to happen. Then it seems like the last year with our friends just seemed to vanish very quickly. So, you know exactly how they will feel and what they will encounter. These are the times when you should be there for them by offering support and advice. No matter the amount of times it must be given, positive encouragement will always be appreciated. Just keep a watch at how well your child deals with the fact that high school is ending and they will be leaving the nest. Then continue to utilize your parenting education in the best way that you see fit. We have confidence that you will do okay. Have you ever been put in the situation where you did something that had negative results and your parents knew what the outcome would be beforehand but did nothing to stop it? Now you appreciate that your parent was allowing you to learn a possibly hard lesson. It’s probably a lesson that has stayed with you all your life. These decisions you need to make are situation specific and will change. It’s a good lesson to allow kids to make some decisions on their own, but not when the consequences are too major.
Aside from not being loved in the first place, the hardest thing for a child to encounter is not being accepted for who they really are. As adults, a majority know what it feels like to be accepted. Plus, we all found it hard to accept a few things about our children. But, the bottom line is that they will remain our children. Hopefully, all parents will be able to let their children know that they love no matter what and they will always be welcomed at home. The outside world will treat them differently, maybe, but at home it is a different story.
We feel you will find your parenting tasks and responsibilities much easier if you are able to have positive communications with your children. Of course this assumes they are old enough to understand.
